The 2023 season brought continued success for the Warriors, finishing with a 7–3 record. Two athletes earned IFCA All-State honors, while five senior student-athletes signed to play college football, pushing the number of college signees during Comer’s tenure to over 25 in four years. The 2023 Warriors were also recognized as a National Football Foundation Academic Team of Excellence for the third consecutive year and were honored as an IFCA “Good Works” Team for the second straight season, recognizing the program’s commitment to community service.
The 2022 season featured a roster with many athletes stepping into new roles while battling adversity throughout the year. The Warriors finished with a 5–7 record and advanced to the Sectional Championship game after defeating two top-10-ranked teams in the opening rounds of the tournament. The 2022 team was also recognized by the IFCA as a “Good Works” Team for its community service efforts and was named a National Football Foundation Academic Team of Excellence for the second consecutive year.
In 2021, the Warriors posted a 10–2 overall record and captured the 20th conference championship in program history. Four players earned IFCA All-State honors, while center Kaleb Caudle was selected to the IFCA All-Star team. Five members of the senior class earned IFCA Academic All-State honors, the most in school history, while the team finished the first semester with a 3.19 team GPA.
In his first season as head coach in 2020, Comer led the Warriors to an 11–1 record and an appearance in the IHSAA Class 3A State Championship game. The Warriors completed an undefeated regular season while capturing the Sagamore Conference title along with Sectional, Regional, and Semi-State championships. The Semi-State title was just the second in program history and the first since 1999. That season also saw the Warriors produce five IFCA All-State selections, the most in school history, along with two IFCA Academic All-State selections.
Before arriving at Danville, Comer spent seven successful seasons at Western Boone High School. While at Western Boone, he helped lead one of the most prolific offenses in school history, averaging over 40 points per game during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. The Stars captured back-to-back IHSAA Class 2A State Championships during those years. Comer also served as the Head Track and Field Coach at Western Boone, highlighted by a 2019 State Championship in the boys high jump.
Coach Comer and his wife, Kristina, met while competing in football and volleyball at the University of Indianapolis. They are the proud parents of two sons, K.J. & Griffin, and owners of an energetic black lab named CoCo.
